About Fostering

Become A Foster Hero.

At Ziva Dog Rescue, fosters are the heart of what we do. By opening your home to a dog in need, you provide a safe and loving place for them to land while they wait for their forever family. Without fosters, our rescue simply could not exist.

Fostering is a rewarding and temporary commitment, and you can help for as little or as long as your schedule allows. Whether it’s a few days or a few months, every foster home makes a real difference. We are currently seeking fosters in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, and surrounding areas.

Ready to make a difference? Please fill out an application, and our team will be in touch within 48 hours. For more details, check out our Fostering FAQ or reach out at info@zivadogrescue.org or through our Contact Page. We can’t wait to welcome you to the team!

Fostering
FAQs

  • Fostering means giving love to an animal who may have never experienced it before. It’s forming a bond with a dog who may not stay forever, but who will go on to a home that will cherish and care for them.

For every pet a foster family parts with, another dog gains the chance to live, to feel warmth, appreciation, and affection—and most importantly, to have a future.

  • You will be asked to pick up your foster dog from one of our transport stops, if they are being transported north from our southern counterparts.

You will be given all the information regarding location, time and pick-up at least one week before the arrival date. If the dog is local, we will coordinate the transfer.

  • Ziva Dog Rescue is happy to provide food, supplies and vetting, as needed. If you choose to sponsor the food and supplies, that is much appreciated!

  • You will be advised every step of the way. We are here to offer guidance for all of your concerns. Whether it is tips on introducing your foster to resident pets, how to handle the decompression period, training advice or simply being a sounding board for your questions and concerns, we are here to help!

  • It’s hard to estimate how long it will take to find the best home possible. Sometimes it can be a few days and sometimes a few weeks. There are many factors that go into this, and we will work diligently to find each dog the right home quickly.

  • Yes, we want to prepare our dogs to the best of our ability. Crate training provides a safe space for them and allows for decompression. We can provide a crate, if needed.

  • Your help is an important part of finding the best home for your foster dog! We’ll regularly ask for photos, videos, and personality updates to help showcase your foster’s unique traits.

These updates will be shared on our website, social media, and other adoption platforms. Your input is essential and greatly valued in helping your foster find their forever family!
